How do I contribute to a positive school culture?

First, through my involvement with Humans of Boucherie, I help highlight the incredible stories of perseverance, courage, and resilience in our students - many of who aren't always heard, nor accepted. Secondly, as a member of grad council, I serve as a role model who demonstrates strong communication, leadership, and someone who is inclusive to all students, regardless of their experiences and values. Lastly, I help contribute to a positive school culture by having meaningful conversations with the staff at MBSS frequently, as well as recognizing them for all of their dedication to bettering students' futures.

Describe four events that have shaped the identity of our graduating class:

Polar Plunge: The polar plunge was an event run by the grad council's Grad Bonding Committee. This event has helped shape the identity of our graduating class in the sense that we proved that we are a group that is willing to seek discomfort and put ourselves out of our comfort zones. It is always hard to try something new, especially put yourself in a vulnerable position in front of many of your peers, and countless members of the graduating class did just this.

Winter Formal Set-Up: The winter formal set-up helped shape the identity of our graduating class in the sense that it showed unity amongst the students. During the set-up, rather than working on tasks that their close friends were working on, many students jumped to tasks that were suffering. Here, they worked diligently with individuals who they don't normally socialize with, and yet there were laughs, quality discussions occurring, and work getting done. This ultimately proves that the graduating class together are joined as one, all with the same goal of creating an unforgettable graduation for themselves and their peers.

Social Justice Religions Field Trip: In my grade 11th field trip to various religious places of worship. The year, all of the social justice classes took a helped shape the identity of our social justice religions field trip certainly graduating class because it proved that the individuals within our class are accepting of differences. During the different visits, without argument, each individual willingly followed the rules of the places of worship and didn't mock, or make fun of the different traditions.

Student Climate Change Protest/Walk-Out: The student climate of our graduating class because it proved that change walk-out us individuals have helped shape strong voices. The students who participated in the walk-out demonstrated great determination and character by fighting for their individual rights and beliefs, as well as seek change in areas that they feel need improvement. For many, finding your inner voice and challenging political ideas can be a daunting task; however, the students of our graduating class did not shy away.

What have we already accomplished as a collective group?

The MBSS graduating class of 2020 has already accomplished so much. As a collective group, we have established a graduating class that is united. Together, we are joined as a whole through various grad bonding activities and events, as well as winter formal. Many new friendships and bonds have been created between people that one might have never thought would exist before. We are also a collective group which has established powerful voices. Through events like the student climate change walk-out, and even through social media platforms, our graduating class has worked to speak out against social and political norms that we deem are flawed. United together, we have overcome the fear of speaking up, and instead, we stand powerfully for what we believe in. Collectively as a group, our grad class has also accomplished a sense of humbleness among all of the members. The MBSS graduating class of 2020 is a group that ensures the needs of others are put before themselves. Additionally, we have easily surpassed the donations of last year's grad class when it comes to raising funds to help out our fellow less fortunate grads, so that they can have a memorable prom experience. Lastly, the MBSS graduating class of 2020, as collective group, has accomplished great acceptance. In an environment and world that is filled with discrimination, racism, and hate, our has worked hard to graduating class accomplish an environment that is accepting of individuals from all walks of life, so that they may feel comfortable and at home in our school/community.

What I love about MBSS:

When reflecting on what I love about MBSS, a few things immediately come to mind. The staff at MBSS is so incredibly accommodating, whether that be staying late or dedicating their lunch time for allowing a re-test, or teaching class lessons in different ways to accommodate a variety of learning styles. Additionally, the staff are all very personable people that are easy to approach, as well as talk to for personal advice and guidance. Part of what allows us students to connect so well to the teachers are the small classroom sizes which help you get acquainted with your teachers, as well as allowing for more one on one assistance. One of the other things truly adore about MBSS is the wide array of courses, dual-credit programs, school sports, clubs, and volunteer opportunities that are available here at MBSS. MBSS certainly prioritizes the diverse interests of the student body.
